Every place needs art. Don't be scared. Even though "art" is a rule-breaker, good design still puts boundaries on what is appealing to the eye (i.e. repeated elements, proper scale, etc.). Wall art tends to be the most approachable and can transform a dead space into a favorite feature. To create impact, opt for an oversized canvas, multiples of three in the same look, a gallery of different sizes in a grid format and with matching frames or a dramatic wall mural. Pick up an accent color from your current decor, use personal photos from your travels, or go bold with a juxtaposed style to make others talk. If you're the minimal type, neutral textures (i.e. 3D wood, plaster, etc.) in an abstract style are gorgeous. You do not have to spend a fortune on art, either. Design is democratic these days, so a download on Etsy, a discount home goods store, or an estate sale treasure all work. There are no hard rules as to where the art should live, but entryways, dining rooms, primary bedrooms and powder rooms are a safe bet. Be cool and put up some art.
