If lighting is jewelry to a home, then a rug is a gorgeous handbag. It can make a statement when done right. Good rugs are a sign of good people, too (no data on that, just a hunch). Rugs today are the great equalizer - you don't have to spend a fortune to get that look - but there are some important things to note when selecting the right one for your space. If it's for a family room, go for wool in a low to medium pile. If it's a high-traffic zone, consider washable or very low pile in a synthetic blend. If it's for a primary bedroom or sitting room, higher pile can work (pending kids and pets don't frequent the space), and kitchens, hallways and laundry rooms are great for square-type removable tiles or runners to cover long stretches. Scale is important, so avoid too small. Standard sizes are readily in stock (5x8, 6x9, 8x10, 9x12), but custom is a beautiful option when luxury calls. All over prints that bleed to the edges are great for styling (and flexibility), but if you want a border (i.e. for a dining table), be sure to space out the furniture evenly within . Oh, and good rug pad cannot be overstated - get one, please! Here are some beauties to cut a rug on:
